Frequently Asked Questions
It is totally normal to have some questions or concerns when contemplating seeking psychological services. Here are our responses to the most common questions we receive.
Who/ What do we work with?
Our providers specialize in working with adolescents, adults, and couples, offering tailored support across the lifespan. Although our providers pride themselves on providing psychological services to a broad range of clinical presentations and client identities, each of our providers offers distinct speciality areas of practice. Some of our clients’ most frequent challenges include anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, academic/ employment challenges, and adjustment to change/ life transitions. To learn more about our approaches to treatment and specialty areas of practice, please refer to the About page.
What services do you offer?
We offer a wide variety of services at BH Psychological Services, including individual psychotherapy, couples counseling, psychoeducational assessment, and forensic consultation. We also offer a free 10-15 minute phone screening to assess if we can meet your needs, or share referrals to other practices that may better serve you. Please see our Services page for more information.
What does therapy look like, and how will it help me?
Therapy is a collaborative and supportive process where we explore your thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and experiences in a safe, non-judgmental space. In our sessions, we will work together to clarify what matters most to you, identify patterns that may be holding you back, and develop new ways of coping, growing, and relating to others.
What therapy “looks like” will vary depending on your needs and goals. At times, it may involve processing painful experiences or emotions; at other times, it may be more focused on learning practical tools to manage anxiety, improve relationships, or navigate life transitions. Basically, we will tailor the time and space to meet and address your unique needs and preferences. To learn more about our providers’ approaches to treatment, please view the About page.
Over time, therapy can help you gain insight, feel more empowered, and make meaningful changes in your life. Whether you’re looking to reduce distress, better understand yourself, or live more in line with your values, therapy offers a space to move toward that growth with guidance and support. We hope to help you move from merely surviving to thriving!
Fees, Payment, & Insurance:
BH Psychological Services operates as an out-of-network provider, meaning that we do not currently accept insurance; however, we are able to provide invoices (“Superbills”) that you may submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement. Our fees vary depending on the service provided; please see our Services page for more information. Additionally, our providers reserve a few slots in their caseload for sliding scale payment or pro bono services. Please feel free to ask about these options when contacting our practice. We accept various payment methods, including credit/debit cards, cash, checks, Zelle, Venmo, CashApp, PayPal, and bank transfers.
Every attempt will be made to collect payment as services are rendered. In the event that you have not rendered payment for services after two consecutive sessions, and/or an account reaches a balance due of $400.00 or greater, we will discuss your commitment to treatment and whether we should continue to proceed with treatment or not. An additional policy to note relating to our group services is that each participant is responsible for paying for the first and last session before they are permitted to join a group.
Late Cancellation/ No-Show Policies:
We ask our clients to provide us with as much advanced notice if/ when they need to cancel, reschedule, or miss a session. Once an appointment is scheduled, you will be expected to pay for it unless you provide 48 hours’ advance notice of cancellation. In order for treatment to be effective, sessions need to be attended on a regular basis; however, we (of course) recognize that life is unpredictable and situations and/or emergencies may arise that take temporary priority. Thus, payment is not mandated if we both agree that you were unable to attend due to circumstances beyond your control. If this occurs, please notify me by phone and/or email; “no-call/no-shows” will be required to pay for their appointment. Additionally, if it is possible, we may try to find another time to reschedule the appointment. Additionally, we give all clients a “free pass” whereby they are not charged for their first absence. This policy is in place for individual therapy, couples counseling, and assessment services.
