Jan received a BA degree from Auburn University in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education. She taught Special Education classes for the San Diego and Alabama public school systems before earning her Masters of Education in Learning Disabilities at the University of Alabama. While working on her masters, she taught a Learning Disabilities class in Tuscaloosa and trained undergraduates majoring in Learning Disabilities. During this time, she was nominated for Teacher of the Year in the state of Alabama.
Before entering private practice, Jan worked at the Atlanta Speech School for many years where she served in various positions. She taught reading; provided individual remediation services to students; helped design and directed outplacement services for graduating students and their families; helped design and directed a consultantship with The Westminister School providing staff training and support for their gifted LD students; was a member of the diagnostic team testing students within the Atlanta community; and was the Interim Coordinator of the Language and Learning Disabilities Department.
Jan has served on the Board of Directors and was Treasure for the Georgia Dyslexia Association. She has also served on the Board of Directors for Saint Anne’s Day School and the Trinity School.
